FAQ's
All we require is a plan of your kitchen in order to give you a quote and offer you advice on material choice etc.
We will come to take exact, physical templates of the worktops required, then return to install the worktops in 7-10 days.
If you are getting a replacement work top for an existing kitchen, there are a few things to consider - we can help you with any aspect of this:
- The worktops must be removed at template day - the units must be level, and secure, and the legs must be able to take the weight of a granite work top.
- Any sinks and hobs will need to be disconnected and reconnected - we are granite installers, not plumbers but we can put you in touch with a reputable CORGI registered engineer to take care of any gas hobs - the connection of which requires a CORGI safety certificate.
- If you want to keep you existing tiles, you may not be able to keep the bottom row - fitting a granite work top into a 30mm gap will always result in some broken tiles, no matter how delicately we install it - and we are very delicate!
- Any new sinks and / or hobs must be on site on the day of templating - we will require the model number and sizes for our computerised cutting machinery.
- We have slabs available to view in our yard, and samples available. Local slab suppliers are on hand to give you an extended range to view. You have the freedom to select your own individual slab.
Composite worktops are well suited for kitchen use, and provide you with a clean, contemporary look - what follows is some advice regarding these man - made surfaces:
- Composite worktops are made up of around 90 - 95 % quartz - the rest consists of resins, glues, dyes and other bonding agents. The material is made by a combination of these materials mixed up, then vacuum pressed to a high degree to achieve a solid slab.
- Because it is vacuum pressed, it is hardly porous at all, which is a bonus for home use
- For the same reason though, the natural bond strength found in granite formed and set over millions of years is broken up, and although very tough, composite slabs are not as hard as natural granite.
- Some say that the gloss of a composite worktops is not as pronounced as a granite work top.
- All of the above comparisons, it has to be said are to be taken in context - Composite worktops are still very tough, hard, and glossy compared to the vast majority of other materials used for worktops, and taking into consideration the fact that they are almost completely non-porous - and adding that they are manufactured according to a contemporary specification that provides a consistent, uniform pattern - it should be noted that composite worktops are a premium product, at the height of design and can be considered a state of the art material.
